The University of Oviedo launches a Training Plan through the Center for Teaching Innovation and the Institute for Educational Research and Innovation, in order to prepare teachers and students to face the teaching situation during this academic year.

The plan includes the following actions:

  • Self-training courses for the adaptation of teaching strategies in blended environments of 30 hours and two weeks each. The courses are offered in three formats, with a common unit, but each one oriented to one of the great areas of knowledge: legal-social sciences, humanities and scientific-techniques. There is a beginner level course and an advanced level course oriented to each of the aforementioned areas and to be carried out in the months of July and October.
  • NOOC courses (Open Online Nano Courses) aimed at sharing methodologies and tools for virtual teaching with the entire educational community. The aim is for the teaching staff to share their experiences in the use of tools and methodologies that have been useful for the new scenarios, in the form of short courses of between 3 and 6 hours of dedication for the participants and with a shared format. The courses will be taught in the months of September and October.
  • MOOC course for students "Digital skills for Learning at UNIOVI". Using the scheme of the European Digital Competences Framework (DigComp) as a model, this MOOC course is aimed at students and will have three editions. It is intended that the students are introduced to the management of the tools available in the University for the support of teaching in mixed environments, in a playful way. The MOOC will take place during the months of July and August. The MOOC will be launched for a week in September for new students.

These three actions are to be developed successively, entirely online and open to teachers and students. The key axes of these training actions are:

  • Self-training courses are aimed at preparing for teaching developed in hybrid environments, that is, it will have both a face-to-face and an online part. They are also focused on preparing for the eventuality that teaching has to be done completely online again, in case sanitary restrictions are implemented.
  • The three actions are designed from a double perspective: that of evolving the teaching methodology that teachers have been using to adapt it to new environments, and that of using technology as a tool to support this evolution towards blended learning.
  • In the case of teachers, it becomes necessary to reflect on the teaching methodology itself and to develop the ability to modify and adapt it when it is developed in blended environments. For this reason, the formula of open and flexible self-training is prioritized and an attempt will be made to promote peer-to-peer networking and support during this process by the technical team of the Center for Teaching Innovation (beyond the completion of the courses).
  • In the case of students, the training will have an open, playful and flexible format in which they can use the digital skills they already have and adapt them or acquire the new skills required by academic virtual teaching environments.
  • An important objective of the program is to promote the exchange of information on teaching in new environments and to try to promote negotiation and agreements on key teaching issues that affect both teachers and students, especially on the forms of assessment.
