In 2007, an initiative for the dissemination and spread of existing knowledge in Universities was launched on a global scale, in order to bring society closer to the contents of the subjects taught in all branches of knowledge.

An OCW site is not a distance education service but a web space that contains teaching materials created by teachers for higher education, freely offered and universally accessible online. Use, reuse, adaptation and distribution by others are allowed, with certain restrictions.

The University of Oviedo was the first organization to adapt and use Moodle as an OCW site. It allows each professor to configure their subject on the platform and then be part of the subjects published in Open Course Ware. This way, our university has become the OCW benchmark for many other universities.
