Conference on Virtual and Online Teaching Experiences: The Teaching of History in the Impact of the Coronavirus

Cartel Dia de la Radio

Due to the health emergency caused by COVID-19, on March 12, 2020 part of the faculty of the History Department of the University of Oviedo were forced to renounce face-to-face teaching. The main consequence was that, from that moment on, the way of teaching had to be rethought. It was necessary to find the best way to adapt to the exceptionality and the result has been very successful, but ... how do you replace face-to-face lectures? Should one opt for the online or virtual mode? How is the possible digital divide addressed in the case of students? What kind of classroom practices are put in place? How are face-to-face exams adapted to the new situation? What tools have worked successfully?

In order to give answers to these questions and to anticipate as far as possible an intermittently non-face-to-face learning future, these sessions have the ultimate goal of publicizing the methodologies, strategies and tools that were deployed to face such an unusual situation. Likewise, the analysis and presentation of the strengths and weaknesses of our methodologies, the exhibition of the results obtained and the description of new interactive applications can be very useful for teachers who did not have teaching during in this past semester. In addition, the exchange of these experiences and the critical reflection on them can provide us with a firm footing that should help us to alleviate the uncertainties that may arise at the beginning of the new course.
