COURSE SUMMARY

About this course

The MOOC Course The European Union as agent of change, it's the second course from the "Europe for Citizens Program" project #CITIZEU : The impact of the Euroscepticism on the construction of Europe, a project leaded by the Gijón City Council and with the collaboration as partners of Nuremberg, Genoa, Alba Iulia, AEKS (NGO from Vääksy), CEPS (think tank from Brussels) and the University of Oviedo.

The aim of the project it's to engage citizens in six cities to, first understand the European Union, a basic knowledge of its institutions, history, achievements and its multilevel governance approach. On the other hand, the project wants to promote an understanding and discussion of the reasons behind the current rise of Euroscepticism and its impact on the future of the European project. The project wants to go in depth about the origins and consequences of the Euroscepticism in the actual European stage.

Moreover, this project has as a goal to contribute to improve the understanding of the EU, image, promotion of citizen participation, European Citizenship, identity, as well as tolerance and understanding of the different European countries.

The activities of the project involved three kinds of actions: two MOOC Courses, the opening of an online platform of citizen participation and the celebration of six transnational citizen dialogues.

Inside of that context, the present MOOC Course would like to provide a basic knowledge about EU in order to improve the information about Europe; also, we would like to provide skills and tools for the debate. As an online course, we expect to get a big impact on not only the European associations and citizens promoted by the partners, but also the general public. Everybody could follow the course, so we hope to have a great impact on the society through using different channels (social networks; universities, media, and so on).
